The tiny and famous village of Rennes Le Chateau is many hours west of St Maximen. The church was rebuilt by the country priest Berenger Sauniere and dedicated to Mary Magdalene: it holds two images of Mary Magdalene that are particularly arresting. The first one is underneath the altar. Note that the crucifix has become a sprouting branch.
